E-Merging Media - European Communication Council

Kurzbeschreibung

The European Communication Council (ECC) is an independent group of scholars and scientists from various European countries and the USA. For each new report, communication experts of diverse academic backgrounds are invited to participate in research and production as either Fellows of the Council or authors. The ECC´s objective is to discuss trends and issues in European communications for leaders and visionaries in communication and media companies as well as for leading policymakers. In this context, the term “European” relates to at least the major communication and media markets in Europe, but also includes other European countries (be they members of the EU or not) where interesting and important developments are taking place. The 2001/2002 project will be named “e-merging media” and will concentrate on development in media / new media-technology as well as on effects on and changes in society.

Projektziel

The 2001/2002 project will be named “e-merging media” and will encompass – among others - the following topics:

media history

media (traditional vs. new media)

effects on society

policy (regulation etc.)

ethics (shifts by media)

The limits result from the final objective: to retain clarity and impact, the report would have to concentrate on key trends, and emphasize those issues which deserve a higher profile in future debates.

Vorgehen

To create such reports, three groups of scholars are invited to co-operate in different ways. The first group consists of five independent scholars with international reputation and with different academic backgrounds who serve as “fellows” of the European Comminication Council: Axel Zerdick (Freie Universität Berlin), Arnold Picot (Ludwig Maximilans-Universität, Munich School of Management), Klaus Schrape (Universität Basel), Jean-Claude Burgelmann (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) and Roger Silverstone (London School of Economics and Political Science). The second group of scholars to contribute to the reports are authors with international reputation in their respective fields of work. The third group are the coordinating authors of the Council, making sure that things fit together.
